Understand the pattern
A repeating pattern is a sequence that follows the same order again and again. Your goal is to identify the smallest part that repeats, then continue that same order until the pattern is complete.
Method
- Find the core repeat. Look for the group of shapes, colors, letters, or numbers that appears in the same order.
- Check where the repeat restarts. The pattern should match exactly from one repeat to the next.
- Extend the pattern carefully. Copy the repeating unit forward without changing the order.
- Fill in only what is missing. If some items are already shown, use them as clues to keep the sequence consistent.
- Simplify the final answer. Write the completed pattern in its simplest clear form, with no extra symbols or steps.
Check your work
Read the whole pattern from start to finish. Every repeated block should be identical, and the sequence should not break or shift. If the completed pattern matches the repeating unit all the way through, your answer is correct.
