Curved Surface Area Cylinder
Go to Math Operation
Introduction:
The curved surface area of a cylinder refers to the area of the cylinder's lateral surface, excluding the top and bottom circular faces. It's an important concept in geometry, particularly in calculating the surface area of cylindrical objects.
Understanding Curved Surface Area:
A cylinder has a circular top, a circular base, and a curved side surface.
The curved surface area only includes the area of this side surface.
Formula for Calculating Curved Surface Area:
The curved surface area of a cylinder is calculated using the formula: Curved Surface Area = 2πrh, where:
r is the radius of the base of the cylinder.
h is the height of the cylinder.
π (Pi) is approximately 3.14159.
Example:
For a cylinder with a radius of 3 units and a height of 7 units:
The curved surface area = 2 × π × 3 × 7 = 42π ≈ 131.95 square units.
Key Points to Remember:
The curved surface area does not include the top and bottom faces of the cylinder.
This calculation is essential for practical applications involving cylinders, such as in manufacturing and construction.
