Skip counting by 4s

When you count by 4s, each new number is 4 more than the one before it. This means the numbers in the sequence are multiples of 4.

1) Look for the pattern

Start with the given number and add 4 each time:

  • 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, ...
  • 12, 16, 20, 24, ...

If a number is missing, ask: What is 4 more than the last number I see?

2) Fill in the blanks one step at a time

Move through the sequence in order and keep adding 4. Do not skip any step, because each term depends on the one before it.

Example:

  • 8, __, 16, __, 24
  • 8 + 4 = 12
  • 12 + 4 = 16
  • 16 + 4 = 20
  • 20 + 4 = 24 So the completed sequence is 8, 12, 16, 20, 24.

3) Check your work

Read the sequence again and make sure:

  • every number is 4 more than the previous one
  • the numbers are all multiples of 4

If one jump is not 4, go back and correct that spot.
